El Rubio – Seville

El Rubio in Seville is positioned between Estepa and Ecija and during the Roman era, there was a road connecting the towns that was also used to monitor traffic. El Rubio in Seville province has some lovely areas which have been wonderfully preserved for everyone to enjoy. These include Cerro de Calatrava located on Camino del Cementerio.

Main information

The origins of El Rubio in Seville are not clear, some Historians believe that its name could came from an ancient Roman settlement, though other Historians believe that it came from an old name of a farmhouse “el Cortijo de El Rubio”.

On December 29th 1264, Alfonso X el Sabio gave El Rubio to the military order of Calatrava, creating the Senorio de Osuna.

Some years later El Rubio in Seville was given to the Orden de Santiago, an Order of Cavalry, to which the King gave privileges. This disagreement finished in the XX century, when El Rubio was finally a town on its own.

Fiestas

  • Feria de Agosto – During the first weekend of August, the fair takes place. There are lots of different events during these days: sport, cultural and entertainment events.
  • Gallape Rock – A rock music festival that is celebrated in September each year.
  • First Sunday of March – Romeria Virgen del Rosario is a pilgrimage celebrated. People from the town go to the countryside and spend there a day with family and friends.
