Ermita Nueva in Jaen is located to the south of the municipal, next to the Badajoz-Granada national road. On the slopes of Cerro del Camello, and bordering the province of Granada. In this hill there is a geomorphological phenomenon, which has given rise to a very particular rock formation. The product of a differential erosion process caused by meteorological agents.

It is true that the peculiar formation to which we refer, has been the object of worship in past times, as witnessed by the pilgrimages that the inhabitants of the village made to this place, as well as the name it receives: the Virgen del Camello.

The village name, Ermita Nueva, comes from a temple which was built back in 1781 to worship the Saint Isidro. You can actually go and visit the local museum to see facts and objects from that time.

Ermita Nueva in Jaen is a this pretty village split into three different clusters – Cequia, Las Pilillas and el Ventorrillo. It is surrounded by olive groves and stunning views over to Mures and even the Sierra Nevada ski slopes! The village offers a shop and various bars, the town of Alcala la real is the place for large supermarkets or even Granada.

  • 3th of May – The festival of the cross is celebrated in the town Ermita Nueva in Jaen, all the crosses of the town are adorned and dressed. Games and cucanas are held for the little ones and when night comes to move the body in the “dance”.
  • 14th, 15th and 16th of May – The big festivities of the village are celebrated. The patron saint festivities, during these three days the village dresses in glamor and joy to also welcome those who come from abroad during these days there are cucanas, children’s games exhibitions etc. On May 15th, the patron is taken through the village to San Isidro Labrador accompanied by the neighbors of the village who are dressed in flamenco dress. What is not lacking in these days, is fun and the desire to have fun.
  • 31th of May – The feast of our patron saint the Virgin of Flowers is celebrated. A procession through the streets with the Saint.
