Later on, Muslims were in the village when they settled in Al-Andalus. We can see today the Atalaya de la Harina which is located at the highest point of “Cerro de la Harina”. It is an Arab watchtower, which dates back to the time of the Muslims.

The tower is no longer functional now but during the Al-Andalus era it served as a tower of defence, given its strategic position. It is also located to be able to communicate with luminous or smoke signals with other nearby towers existing in the area at that time. This tower and the hill owe its current name to the proximity of a flour mill that existed in the area.

Fiestas

  • Fiesta del Palo – It takes place in the 1st of May. People from the town go to the San Juan River, looking for the tallest tree, to cut and bring it to the centre of the town. There, people gather together and enjoy the day having lunch with family and friends. The importance of the trunk is that later on, in the afternoon, a jamon is hung at the top and people will try to get it climbing the trunk.
  • Fiesta de la Candelaria – Celebrated on the 2nd of February. With the branches and trunks cut from the olive trees, people make a bonfire around which they have dinner and enjoy the evening with family and friends.
