Main information

The name of the town Tozar in Granada comes from the Arab era when it was called “Tusar”. There is a tower in the village called Torre de las Porquerizas. It was built by Muslims as part of the defensive buildings in Moclin area. Before the Muslim era, there was a Roman settlement in this location in Granada region.

There is a dolmen and also burial grounds from Visigoths era that were also used by the Romans. More recent in history, we can see in the village some “trincheras” (trenches) used in the Spanish Civil War.

Tozar is an ideal area for activities such as hiking or mountaineering. If you walk through the Sierra del Marques, we get a wonderful panoramic view of the town. It also is one of the places in Granada with the most history.
