Valdepenas de Jaen is an eminently agricultural and livestock municipality. It is very important, within the livestock activity, to highlight the dairy goat farms. It also has a small part of its surface dedicated to the cultivation of olive groves, so the oil industry is practically the only one in the town.

Thanks to its privileged geographical location, Valdepenas has natural landscapes of great beauty, with an abundance of water and a multitude of sources and streams.

Fiestas

  • 2th of February – The Candlemas Festival is celebrated. After the procession, a large bonfire brings together hundreds of people from Valdepenas to taste “rosettes”, roasted pumpkins or migas.
  • First Sunday of May – The pilgrimage in honor of the Christ of the same name is celebrated in the incomparable place of Chircales. After the procession, thousands of pilgrims coexist in the surroundings of the hermitage, where the abundance of water and the thick trees offer a gratifying freshness.
  • 23 to 25th of June – The Valdepenero summer begins with the San Juan fair
  • 1 – 5th of September – The September fair in honor of the Christ of Chircales. On day 1 the entire town goes down to the Santa Ana eras to receive Christ. This remains in the parish church of Santiago Apostol until the last Sunday in October, when it is returned to its hermitage.
