Main information

The village of Aguilar de la Frontera in Cordoba is located in the south of the province, in the La Campina region. Its gently undulating terrain is devoted to agriculture, in particular olive groves. But also cereals and a few vineyards. Zonar and Rincon Lagoons Nature Reserve stands within its municipal boundaries. These lagoons are places of immense beauty surrounded by agricultural land and inhabited by a number of aquatic birds, the most notable of which is the Oxyura Leucocephala duck.

Remains have been found and preserved from the Neolithic to the High Middle Ages, most of which, where Neolithic settlement sat the hillside of Cerro del Castillo. The Romans baptized the settlement with the name of Ipagro.

There are some magnificent mansions in the town of Aguilar de la Frontera in Cordoba; some of the most impressive are situated in Calle Morelejo and Calle Carrera. The facades feature large wooden doors decorated with elaborate wrought-iron carvings. A number of buildings bear witness to its rich and glorious past, but the highlights are the Clock Tower and the splendid octagonal San Jose Square.

Museo Bodegas Toro Albala

The Museum explains the importance of history in the culture of wine, where valuable pieces have been collected for the museum. There are two rooms, one dedicated to Art and Ethnography, and another, to Archaeology.

Reserva Natural Laguna del Rincon is a lagoon  part of a large wetland complex. It is protected for their importance in the wintering and nesting of waterfowl. This small lagoon has become famous for the recovery of Malvasian ducks, when there were only less than 50 pairs in all of Europe. The lagoon has a good density of waterfowl throughout the year
