Alhama de Granada is a pretty, ancient spa town. It is perched precariously at the top of a ravine from where the Rio Alhama carves through otherwise rolling countryside. Its picturesque location and thermal springs attract many visitors.

Alhama de Granada is an ancient town built along the cliffs of a deep gorge cut by the river Mechan. It is fantastically well preserved without much new construction or development. To find the the Balneario springs, take the turn-off beside the modern bridge over the Rio Alhama and follow this for a km or so, through a dramatic gorge. The therapeutic, thermal springs at the Alhama´s Balneario have been channelled into baths since Roman times.
