Main information

The Fuente Cantarina fountain of Nevada in Granada deserves a special mention; thousands of people come each year to see it. On the upper part of the column, placed here in 1681, there is a marble statue of the Immaculate Virgin. On the lower part there is a statue of an angel promising that: ”With one Hail Mary you will earn 10 days of indulgence”.

The area of Nevada in Granada is the highest and most eastern-wards in the Alpujarra, and offers amazing natural landscapes. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to see wild goats, one of the animals that best represents the alpine alpujarrena fauna. Of the four small villages that make up Nevada, Laroles is the capital. It sits in between the rivers Bayarcal and La Ragua and is surrounded by lush chestnut groves.

Nevada in Granada is a popular destination for lovers of snow sports: the Estacion Recreativa del Puerto de La Ragua is only 16km away. This is the second ski resort in Granada, after Sierra Nevada, and visitors can try out cross-country skiing.

The star dish of Nevada is sopa de parva, a soup made with cod, onion, peppers and olive oil.
