The origin of this settlement in Granada is due to the salt. Fuente Camacho in Granada province there is an important aquifer from which water with a high saline concentration emanates. The Salado River arises here and it was used to obtain the salt destined for consumption or conservation of food.

We are used to see the salinas near the sea but not in the countryside that is why is so astonishing to find them in Fuente Camacho in Granada province. The origin of the salt here is due to the type of land, karstic. When the water comes to the surface it brings the salt with it. This Salinas were already used by Romans and by Arabs too. There is also an ancient tower of Arab origin which is known as “the tower of the Salinas” and proofs the Arab origin of the town. There are also some old pools for obtaining salt from the 18th and 19th centuries.
